Minutes of a Special Meeting held in the Council Chambers, 937907 Marsh Bay Road, Coleman Township, on Thursday, May 24th, 2012 at 5:30 p.m.

NEW BUSINESS
The Town of Kirkland Lake and the City of Timmins are in a state of emergency due to forest fires close to their respective communities.
Mayor Cleroux informed Council that he had received a telephone call from the Kirkland Lake Community Emergency Management Coordinator advising that, should there be an evacuation of some of their residents, they would like to use Coleman’s evacuation centre. They would be sending residents who are in need of medical assistance as recommended by Dr. Spruyt, the Temiskaming Health Unit.
Mr. Beeson, CEMC for the Township of Coleman, will contact the Canadian Red Cross, the Salvation Army, Community Care Access Centre to advise them that we could possibly become an evacuation centre for the Town of Kirkland Lake.
The Clerk-Treasurer will contact the Temiskaming Health Unit to enquire if Coleman can increase their capacity.
Should evacuees be admitted to Coleman’s centre, Mayor Cleroux will declare an emergency. The Town of Kirkland Lake will be responsible for expenses. There will be field officers assigned to the Township of Coleman.
The Red Cross will supply the Coleman centre with cots, blankets, pillows and emergency kits for the evacuees.
Councillor Perry will prepare two signs stating “Coleman Township Emergency Shelter, turn here”
The Clerk-Treasurer will look into a cell phone and a projector that is capable of various inputs such as laptops and T.V. cables.
Chief Laitinen advised he had been contacted by Diane McCullough. The Coleman Fire Department is on stand by – capability – five firemen, 2 portable pumps, 1 X 2,000 gal. porta tank, 1,000′ to 1,500′ of bush hose and 1 generator.
The Fire Department expenses should be paid through the Township of Coleman.
