Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Council of the Township of Coleman held at the Council Chambers, 10 Prospect, Cobalt, Ontario on Wednesday, July 26th, 2006 at 6:00 P.M.

BE IT RESOLVED THAT the minutes of the following Council Meetings be adopted as distributed:

Regular Meeting – July 12, 2006

Special Meeting – July 19, 2006 Carried.

Correspondence received from the Town of Cobalt regarding the Coleman Water Act Agreement was reviewed. The Clerk-Treasurer to arrange a meeting with the Cobalt Council to discuss the agreement for August 3rd, 2006 at 5:00 p.m.

Correspondence received from Mr. George Kemp, Municipal Lawyer, regarding Timber Harvesting was reviewed. Mr. Kemp advised a proposal submitted by Grant Forest products Inc. has been accepted.

An agreement prepared by Mr. George Kemp regarding access required for Crown Aggregate Pit Number 11009 adjacent to purchase lands was approved by Council. The Clerk-Treasurer to forward the agreement to James Lathem Excavating Limited for their approval.

BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Clerk-Treasurer be authorized to purchase an ad in the Speaker for Cobalt’s Centennial in the amount of $65.00. Carried.

Motion 06-07-21 MOVED BY Kurt Leopold and SECONDED BY Marcel Allaire:

BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Clerk-Treasurer be authorized to purchase an ad in the Speaker for the Fred Eaglesmith’s Great Northern Picnic in the amount of $65.00. Carried.

Motion 06-07-22 MOVED BY Marcel Allaire and SECONDED BY Kurt Leopold:

WHEREAS Bill 111 an Act to amend the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, 1997 with respect to occupational disease and injuries of firefighters has received first reading on May 4, 2006 by the Legislature of Ontario;

AND WHEREAS Bill 111 Subsection 15.1 (3) states that if a firefighter develops a certain type of cancer or a degenerative neurological disease, is presumed to be an occupational disease that occurred due to employment as a firefighter;

AND WHEREAS Bill 111 Subsection 15.1 (7) states that if a firefighter suffers heart damage while attending at a fire or emergency, or within 24 hours after attending at a fire or emergency, the heart damage is presumed to be a personal injury by accident that occurred due to employment as a firefighter;

AND WHEREAS the Ontario Provincial Firefighters Association has formed a strong movement to exclude the volunteer firefighters from the benefits of this Bill;

BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council of The Township of Coleman fully supports the Township of Woolwich’s request that Bill 111, an amendment to the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, 1997 includes occupational disease and injuries of volunteer firefighters. Carried.

Correspondence received from the Town of Cobalt regarding SMC Headframe Removal was reviewed. The Clerk-Treasurer will confirm with the Municipal Insurance Agent that secondary coverage for the removal and relocation of the headframe is in place.
