STAFF REPORTS 

Works Department 

Mr. Brian Bigelow will request quotes for a sanding unit for the F450.

Council should start thinking about replacing the . ton truck – preferably a 4 wheel drive.

Mr. Bigelow has been cleaning snow out of intersections left by Highway Plow Operators.

– The Clerk-Treasurer to look into the matter of “Quorum” for regular meetings of Council.

3. Mayor Cleroux reported on a conversation with Mr. Jeff Barton regarding the Whip-Poor-will study held in the Township of Coleman.

4. NEONET GIS Project – the Clerk-Treasurer to forward the required information.

5. Fire Dispatch – deferred to the next meeting.

2. Motions – Temiskaming Shores & Area Chamber of Commerce membership.

Motion 14-01-11 MOVED BY Lois Perry and SECONDED BY Cathy Marcella:

BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Clerk-Treasurer be authorized to pay the 2014 membership to the Temiskaming Shores & Area chamber of Commerce in the amount of $150.00. Carried.

Council reviewed the following regarding the OPP Billing Model

– Municipality of Huron Shore

– Twp of Whitewater Region

Township of Baldwin – NOHFC programs 

Motion 14-01-12 MOVED BY Lois Perry and SECONDED BY Cathy Marcella:

WHEREAS the Council for the Corporation of the Township of Coleman share the concerns of the Township of Baldwin and support the initiatives undertaken by said Township with respect to resolving the inequities facing small municipalities in delivering mandated services,

AND WHEREAS it is through discussion with small municipalities and their governments that these issues can hopefully be resolved;

BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council request that Michael Gravelle, Minister of Northern Development and Mines extend the courtesy of responding to the letters of request from the Township of Baldwin dated August 27th and November 04th, 2013 Carried.

Wildlife Management Units 

Motion 14-01-13 MOVED BY Lisa Neil and SECONDED BY Sue Cote:

WHEREAS David Orazietti, Minister of Natural Resources, has sent correspondence dated November 14, 2013 to Mayor Lorie Hunter to ask that the Council of the Municipality of Temagami demonstrate support for a two-year proposed pilot project to respond to nuisance bear issues, which would include a limited early hunting season;

AND WHEREAS this limited early hunting season would be for Ontario residents from May 1 to June 15, beginning in 2014 for selected Wildlife Management Units (WMUs);

AND WHEREAS the pilot project area takes in only southwest corder of the Municipality that is part of WMU 41, but does not include the more populated and frequented areas of the Municipality;

AND WHEREAS the Municipality has taken Bear Wise measures, but is also concerned about public safety issues resulting from human-bear conflicts in the areas of the Municipality covered by WMU 40;

BE IT RESOLVED THAT the Council of the Corporation of the Township hereby indicates its support in principle of the pilot project, but is looking to see it expanded to include Wildlife Management Unit 40 to cover other areas of concern in Coleman;

AND FURTHER THAT Council is optimistic about the success of this pilot and is hopeful that it will be further expanded in future years Carried.

Council Remuneration and Travel Expense are deferred to Budget Discussions

3. Temagami Cobalt Corridor – payment of accounts

– invoices should be sent to each municipality for their share of the fees.

4. Council reviewed the following correspondence from the Ontario Provincial Police

Councillor Marcella reported on a meeting held with Mr. Yvan Brousseau, Town of Kapuskasing Solar Inc. to discuss the possibility of a 500 kw Solar Energy Project with the Town of Kapuskasing and Strathcona Solar.

Councillor Marcella presented the December 31, 2013 Financial Report and Road Update.

The Clerk-Treasurer to request quotes for 6 I Pads for Members of Council and Administration.

The 2013 Chief Building Official Report was distributed to Council.
